RULES for the ODGL GOLD CUP
1. The Oldham and District League GOLD CUP was instigated to mark the league’s 50th anniversary in 2023.
2.The competition will be a SINGLES matchplay knockout.
3. Ideally clubs will be represented by their team captains but a Vice Captain can be nominated PRIOR to the start of the competition (to be the team's representative for the season). All players must comply with eligibility to play in the respective Leagues (i.e. A team 0 to 9.0 index, B team 8.0 to 17 index) with active handicap status.
4. The format is SINGLES MATCHPLAY. That equates to 100 percent of the course handicap to get the playing handicap and then FULL DIFFERENCE. Tied matches go to extra holes to find a winner.
5. Clubs drawn at home are expected to make contact with the opposition (all contact info is on the ODGL website). A minimum of three date/ time options to be given to the opposition. Please be mindful that there is a wide mix of working/available/retired players amongst our ranks when offering slots.
6. It is up to the home drawn player to secure the tee time with his home club. It is expected that the visiting player will be given courtesy of the course and NOT charged a green fee.
7. Once a fixture is confirmed, the date and time should be sent via text or email to the Secretary and then the result confirmed no later than 24 hours after the match has taken place.
8. With the option to have stand-ins, there should be no reason for the games NOT to be played by the deadline. Do not leave it until close to the deadline to arrange games. Communication is the key – especially if holidays are booked.
9. The deadlines for matches will be as follows:
Preliminary round: Last day of May.
First Round: Last Day of June
Quarter final: Last Day of July
Semi final: Last Day of August.
Final: to be played BEFORE September 25
10. The draw for each subsequent round will be communicated to the team captains once all games have been played.
11. The final will be played on a NEUTRAL course at a date and time agreed between the secretary and the two competing players. The League Secretary will book the course and tee time.
12. The winner will be awarded the ODGL GOLD CUP and receive prize money of £50. The runner-up will receive prize money of £30 - to be collected at the ODGL presentation event at the Brian Atack Team Tournament (September 27 at Crompton & Royton GC).
13. Any issues please contact secretary DAVID WHALEY (07764638309 or email davewhaley1@gmail.com)
